Radiohead - The Bends (1995)

album cover spread lyrics back of cd band wall

So I knew about Radiohead obviously like Creep and stuff and No Surprises I had heard through TikTok until probably like April/May 2024 when I actually properly got into Radiohead's music and even now like I really like The Bends, I know OK Computer quite well and some other songs here and there but I wouldn't feel confident to say I'm a huge fan even though like I think they're amazing like everything they do is just it just hits so good but I don't think I have the knowledge to back up declaring that I'm a big fan if you know what I mean... But yeah this album is so goooood no skips dare I say! The first song I listened to on here was Black Star and I had just been broken up with and I was just really sad just listening to sad music crying all the time and when Black Star came on my recommended on Spotify it was like yeah this is what I needed. It's just soooooo it's so good like it's so rich and at that point in time I just needed to Sulk (lol see what I did) and wallow so getting into Radiohead was just a beautiful thing really. And then I was determined to go through their whole discography but I didn't get around to it. I will some day because I've listened to In Rainbows a few times and I always thought it was good but not super memorable but then when I watched the start of that video where they play the whole album in like a basement or something that was really really good I think it clicked for me that I need to relisten to In Rainbows and pay more attention so I will do that at some point.

headphones Ranking the Tracklist

Ok I'm just gonna do it.

There you go I don't know how accurate that is actually this one is a hard one to rank ngl

love hearts Memory

Ok so my main memory was listening to Black Star for the first time and from memory I think I was cycling to school and I had a sad playlist I put together on with the smart shuffle and Black Star smart shuffled into my ears and I was like omg this is such a good song how have I never appreciated Radiohead before?! And then I thought ok (lol) let me get a listen of the rest of this album and then I realised it was so good and because I had just started buying CDs because I started my job I had to get it on CD. I think this was actually the second CD I bought after The 1975 Deluxe which is pretty cool. Oh also I remember listening to it with my Mum in the car as she dropped me off at school and she told me about how she used to play all these songs with her band and that like she didn't fully remember the lyrics but she did know which chords they were and stuff and when there was a short verse which I thought was pretty cool. Like imagine being around for all this stuff being RELEASED like omg that would be so cool to listen to these songs for the first time with the rest of the world.

Also, if you haven't already listen to the Fake Plastic Trees EP with How Can You Be Sure? and India Rubber likeeeee How Can You Be Sure is really good I cannot recommend enough it's really cool because it's got another vocalist on it and Thom Yorke's voice in a duet like it's just so nice and especially with this singer like their voices sound soooo nice together I love it!! I tried to find out who it was who sang on that song and I can't remember it was really hard to find but I think there was a Reddit post that said it was someone. But yeah I really love that song from The Bends era and India Rubber is having a TikTok moment rn.
